FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Catalyst Releases SocketTools 3.5
Yucca Valley, CA, October 9, 2000 - Catalyst Development Corporation, providing
Winsock compliant TCP/IP custom controls, today announced the release of SocketTools 3.5.
Included in this new version are enhanced controls and libraries for virtually every
component in the package. These include improvements in general performance and
reliability, full support for Unicode, as well as a wide variety of corrections and
enhancements to the overall package. For C++ programmers, the Library Edition now also
includes C++ class libraries and includes complete source for those classes.
Here's some of the highlights:
- A new HTTP control and library supports all versions of the protocol, proxy servers,
client authentication, chunked transfers and more. This control also offers significant
performance improvements over the old browser component, and has an interface similar to
the FTP control.
- Enhancements to the FTP control and library, including built-in support for four proxy
server types as well as a user-defined proxy type, multiple file transfers using
wildcards, directory parsing for UNIX, DOS and VMS list formats, automatic client
resynchronization for increased reliability and performance improvements (particularly for
large files transferred over high-speed networks).
- A new File Encoding/Decoding control which supports uuencode and base64 encoding
formats, as well as file compression. This control is particularly useful when you need to
transfer large binary files or send large amounts of text.
- Improvements to the mail controls and libraries, including the SMTP, POP3 and MIME
components. Each of these components are designed to work with each other to make sending
and receiving e-mails simpler. The SMTP control and library now supports several types of
user authentication, delivery status notification and other advanced features of the ESMTP
protocol.
- The POP3 control and library supports authentication, retrieval of individual message
headers (without having to download the whole header), the ability to pull down a complete
message in a single method call, and support for the poppassd protocol which allows the
mail client to change their mailbox password.
- The MIME control has been significantly improved, with faster decoding and encoding,
support for nested multipart messages, automatic attachment decoding and support for
international character sets both in the header values and body of the message.
- A new SocketWrench library which greatly simplifies the basic Windows Sockets API. This
library is particularly useful for Visual Basic developers who want the low overhead and
performance of a standard DLL, without the complexity of the native Windows Sockets
library.
- New C++ class libraries for the Library Edition makes them even easier to use. Complete
source for each class is included, allowing the developer to extend and modify them to
meet the specific needs of each development project.
- New documentation in PDF format for the all Editions makes it simple to find answers,
and print out sections of the manual. Of course, comprehensive online help in the form of
Windows Help files are also included with all packages.
This is a free upgrade to 3.x owners. Catalyst provides unlimited, free technical
support through the website and by e-mail. For fee voice support is also available.
