FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Catalyst Releases LogicGem

Yucca Valley, CA, August 15, 2006 - Catalyst Development Corporation, publisher of the popular SocketWrench and SocketTools lines of software, today announced the release of its first application software, a logic processing software tool. LogicGem is designed to provide a familiar, easy-to-use way to create, edit, verify and compile logic for programmers and non-programmers alike.

LogicGem has a two-fold audience, software developers (programmers) and business analysts (non-programmers). The common thread between these two diverse groups is that they both need to design logically complete business rules.

For the programmer, the business rules are in fact functional requirements for a software application that are translated into a programming language that becomes part of the application.

Much of the effort in software development does not involve writing code, but rather the process of covering every possible combination of circumstances - user input, database transaction, or any other event - that the program will encounter. If any combination of inputs or events is overlooked, the program will do things essentially at random. Even worse are errors made during program maintenance, usually by programmers who do not fully understand the interaction between dozens of different possibilities.

Cary Harwin, President/CEO, describes the need for LogicGem, especially in large companies, like this, "The complexities of current software projects coupled with extreme budget constraints on IT departments makes errors financially and legally costly, potentially dangerous, and always embarrassing. With LogicGem, team leaders can design the project, confer with the client, make adjustments, finalize the design, all before any code is written."

For the business analyst, the same need exists with the exception of translating the logic to a programming language. Business analysts need to develop concise business rules that represent real life or proposed business processes and these processes need to be every bit as logically concise representation of a business process as robust as software implementation.

LogicGem also provides the means to prototype and expand a high-level procedural concept into a spreadsheet like table, work it through analysis and design phases, and then generate English, French, German or Spanish language documentation and/or source code for Basic, C, C++, Fortran, FoxPro, Java, Pascal, PowerBuilder, SAS, Visual Basic, Visual Basic.NET, Visual C#.NET, or Xbase.

  • Build a representation of Business Rules
  • Verify, compile and document procedural logic or processes
  • Program a large, complex logic construct
  • Create a software "Testing Suite" with the confidence that it is 100% complete
  • Validate the completeness of the logic in an Embedded System before it ships
