Cannot Authenticate Secure IMAP4 Session

Document ID: 100334
Products: SocketTools, All Editions 5.0, All Platforms
Last Reviewed: July 26, 2007

Summary

When attempting to connect to a secure IMAP4 server, an error is returned indicating that the user credentials cannot be authenticated. A connection can be successfully established with Microsoft Outlook or another mail client using the same credentials.

More Information

This error occurs when the client attempts to establish a secure connection on the implicit SSL port 993. The SSL negotiation completes, but the CAPABILITY command is not issued for the secure session, and the client authentication is not performed. This problem only occurs with secure, implicit SSL connections and does not occur when using an explicit SSL connection on the default port.

Status

This is known issue with all SocketTools Editions, version 5.0 build 5020 and earlier builds of the product, and the Catalyst Internet Mail Control version 5.0 build 5020 and earlier builds of the product.

The hotfix for this problem can be downloaded from our website. Please note that you may need a utility such as WinZip to extract the contents of this archive.
