SocketWrench includes a Windows Sockets component and library, as well as a Remote Access Services component which can be used to easily create and manage dial-up networking (SLIP or PPP) connections. For professional developers, the SocketWrench Secure Edition provides all of the features, documentation and technical support needed to develop complete Internet applications, without the complexities of learning the Windows Sockets API or working around the limitations of other Internet controls.
The SocketWrench Secure Edition also includes support for the industry standard Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and Transport Security Layer (TLS) protocols which are used to ensure that data exchanged between the local system and a remote host is secure and encrypted. Your data is protected by strong encryption, with full support for client certificates if required by the server. Using SocketWrench, you can also easily create your own custom, secure server applications. There's no need for you to understand the details of certificate management, data encryption or how the security protocols work. All it takes is a few lines of code to enable the security features, and SocketWrench handles the rest.
Although the ActiveX controls included in the Secure Edition may also be used with Visual Studio .NET languages, it is recommended that developers use the SocketWrench .NET Edition for a managed class designed specifically for the .NET Framework. Although applications written in languages such as Visual Basic .NET and C# can reference ActiveX controls, there is an inherent performance penalty that does not exist when using managed components.
