SocketTools Subscription FAQ

1. What is the SocketTools Subscription?
The SocketTools family of components and libraries are now being offered on a subscription basis to developers. The SocketTools Subscription includes all of the standard and secure controls, components and libraries in SocketTools along with our popular File Transfer Control and Internet Mail Control which greatly simplify the two most common tasks developers encounter: transferring files and sending e-mail messages.
2. What are the licensing terms for the subscription service?
The license agreement is the same for the standard versions of the various SocketTools products. You are free to redistribute the components to as many end-users as you wish without any royalties or runtime licensing fees. For more information, refer to the license agreement included with the product.
3. Can more than one developer use the components and libraries in the subscription?
No, the subscription plan is licensed to a single developer, not to a department or company. If more than one developer is creating or maintaining applications that use our components and/or libraries, each developer requires his or her own license.
4. Is technical support included with the subscription?
Yes, all of the subscription plans include e-mail support through our online support form, as well as access to our knowledge base articles and support forums. There is no limit to the number of incidents you may submit during the subscription period, and your technical support requests will be routed directly to a support specialist who will answer your question, typically the same business day if the request is submitted during normal working hours.
5. How long is the subscription period?
The subscription period is one year from the date of purchase. At the end of the subscription period, the developer will have the option to renew their subscription for another year at a substantial discount.
6. What happens if I don't renew my subscription?
You will no longer be eligible for product upgrades, new products included in the subscription service or technical support. It is important to note that you will be able to continue using the components in your applications, regardless of whether or not you renew your subscription. The subscription service doesn't limit your ability to use the SocketTools components in any way. You can continue to maintain existing software and develop new software using the SocketTools components and libraries even if your subscription service has not been renewed. Note, however, that you will no longer have access to updates, new releases and technical support after the subscription period ends.
7. Can I renew my subscription after the subscription period ends?
Yes, however there is a substantial discount offered to developers who renew prior to the end of the subscription period. You will be notified by e-mail when your subscription period is about to lapse.
8. My company uses a purchasing agent. Who should register the subscription?
The subscription will be registered to the developer using the components and libraries, not to a company or purchasing agent. It is important that we have current contact information to notify the developer of updates, new releases and other changes to the subscription service.
